I would have to say that it is strange that someone of that age has lice so late into the year. What wasn’t’ so strange about this particular patient was she was pregnant. Yes, that’s right, 13 years old and preggers. What are kids thinking now-a-days, that kids are like pets?
So, here she was looking for lice treatment (ironic, because part of my therapeutics exam is on counseling and treatment of insect infestations) but worried about her baby. First, I thought, okay, well why are you pregnant in the first place. Next, I thought, the only OTCs she’s gonna find are pyrethrins.
Just a pharmacological side note: pyrethrins are okay to use in people who are pregnant and exhibit low teratogenic toxicity.
Now, she’s carrying a tons of babies. How ironic, double ironic.
